Rowton Hall Spa Day: A Review

Rowton Hall Hotel and Spa, spa day review

Last weekend, myself and two friends attended a spa day at Chester’s Rowton Hall Hotel and Spa.  After such a relaxing day there, I thought I’d review my experience.

Pulling up to Rowton Hall, we were immediately aware we’d made a great choice for our spa day.  The hotel is beautifully decorated with natural ivy that spans across the exterior walls.  Visiting in November meant this painted a stunning autumnal rainbow across the front face of the building.  The venue is also available for weddings, and I could see why.  Approaching the entrance, we couldn’t wait to see what surprises lay inside.

Upon entering the spa we were greeted by a friendly assistant who provided us with a tea or coffee of our choosing and our towels, robes, slippers and locker tokens, which were all included in our package.  Whilst enjoying our drinks, we were given menus to choose our lunchtime meal.  We were also able to select our own time for lunch, which was a nice touch.

Next we headed into the changing room, to prepare for our massages.  The changing room was well equipt and maintained, providing all we needed for our stay.   Once in our swimwear, slippers and robes, we made our way back to the spa reception lounge, where we were taken upstairs to the treatment area.  All three of us opted for a hot stone back massage, which we all agreed was one of the best massages we’d ever had.  A hot stone massage, for those unaware, is a massage using oil, where warm, smooth stones are strategically massaged across and placed on your body.  If you haven’t had one before, you simply have to try it!

After our massages, we were shown to a relaxation room, where we were provided with some ice cold water, a magazine and tasty macaroons.  Feeling super relaxed after being pampered, this was a perfect place for myself and my friends to unwind.  Once we felt ready, we headed down to the pool area and enjoyed relaxing in the Jacuzzi, sauna and steam room.  The pool area, steam room, sauna and Jacuzzi were all well designed and maintained.  Later in the day, though, when the spa got busier with hotel guests, it did feel a little cramped.

Lunch was served promptly and professionally, and was absolutely delicious.  A table was laid out especially for us in the spa lounge, and we were served, again, by a professional, well mannered assistant.  Between us we had two risotto dishes and one fish of the day, accompanied by a refreshing glass of pinot.  I would highly recommend the food at Rowton Hall.  Our dishes were bursting with flavour and exceeded our expectations.  The portions were only small, but were perfect for a spa day, as we didn’t want to feel too full.

Other facilities at this spa include an onsite gym and tennis courts, but we didn’t visit these during our stay.

Overall, Rowton Hall Hotel and Spa provided a spa day perfect for what myself and my friends were looking for.  I would recommend the spa to others and would definitely return.

Different spa packages vary in price, according to what’s included.  Check out the different packages on offer at Rowton Hall Hotel and Spa here.
